Our Curriculum
Our Curriculum
Since September 2014 the National Curriculum for England was implemented in our school and across the country. Our Curriculum is closely aligned to the knowledge and skills within the National Curriculum but equally adapted to suit the needs of our children and community.

In recent years we have made several improvements to our curriculum, including:

Autumn 2020

We reviewed our curriculum looking specifically at the knowledge and skills being covered. We ensured all our units of work matched the National Curriculum and were progressive, making adaptations to planning where needed.

Summer 2021

We altered our phonics planning and approach in EYFS and KS1 to ensure appropriate coverage. Following on from a change to planning, the reading book scheme was sorted and re-banded to match the order of phonics teaching.

The new RSHE curriculum was adopted and implemented.

We introduced our learning discovery documents which outline the teaching covered within each unit.

Autumn 2021

Music tuition from Norfolk Music Service began for our lower KS2 class.

Following on from English monitoring, and in discussion with external advisors, we changed the approach to teaching writing in KS2 looking at how knowledge of different genre and writing skills are taught to allow clear progression.

We began developing our Forest School Area, planting a hedgerow and installing a gate.

Spring 2022

As a staff we reviewed and re-planned our PSHE curriculum.

Staff training for subject leadership provided by VNET.

Three members of staff undertook their Level 1 in Forest Schools teaching.

Progression and Coverage

Phonics

In the summer 2022, senior leaders and our Reception and Key Stage 1 teachers wrote and agreed our whole school phonics approach.  Due to recent high levels of attainment at the end of Year 1, we felt it wasn't approproate to adopt a new scheme at significant financial cost and training requirements that would be needed.  Therefore, our current teaching sequence was adapted and reinvestment and ordering of new books to support this sequence was completed.  In December 2022, the school requested and received an audit of our phonics approach from VNET (Viscount Nelson Education Trust).

Religious Education

As a Church of England school within the Diocese of Norwich, we follow Norfolk SACRE - Norfolk Agreed Syllabus 2019.  Please see the links below for agreed syllabus and the age-related expectations.

Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE)

In Spring 2021 we chose the Educator Solutions RSE Solution programme.  In Summer 2021 a consultation period was given to all stakeholders and the final policy was approved.
