Ashill VC Primary School

Our topic this term: Pirates & Islands

“Ahoy me hearties! Come aboard, come aboard.” Children will immerse themselves into the world of pirates, making treasure chests and going on treasure hunts. We will discover the world of famous explorers such as Sir Francis Drake and pirates like Blackbeard. We will find out out about life at sea on a ship and what it would be like to live on an island.

PE lessons are on Mondays, please make sure your child comes properly equipped. When the weather is good, PE will outside some of the time so please make sure children have suitable trainers and tracksuit bottoms.

Please send a water bottle into school for your child to use in class. We only allow the children water to drink in class but you can put a fruit drink in their pack lunch if you wish.

Please remember to name your child's PE kit and school uniform - it makes it so much easier to return if lost.

Now it is Winter we will no doubt get some very cold days, please make sure your child has a coat, hat and gloves for playtimes as we still go out to play unless it becomes too icy!

Reading at Home

As you know, reading is life skill all children need to master. In order for your child to continue to make good progress in this area please try to read with them as many times a week as you can. A huge thank you to those of you who already regularly hear your children read at home.

We are trying to encourage the children to read more with the use of our new reading reward scheme "Book Band-its". Each day your child reads at home they will move up 1 block on the Book Band-its graph. When they reach 50 reads they will get an orange wrist band, 90 reads = yellow wrist band, 130 reads = green wrist band, 180 reads = purple wrist band and 215 reads = multi-coloured wrist band and an invite for a special trip at the end of term.  We are really hoping this motivates the children to read more at home!

Welcome back, we hope you had a lovely break. Please explore our class page and find out more about our topic for this term and the exciting topics we will be exploring next. We will be sharing news and photos throughout the year in the school newsletter.

Thank you
